Why are you so keen on defending this ridiculous practice of allowing social housing in premium areas?

Council houses were built with the view of allowing the working poor to have access to half-decent accommodation (as someone brought up in a Council house I know they are often only half-decent). People invest in what they believe to be ‘their community’, family life and social networks are built. People grow old there thinking they are near their family and friends and that will help as they go into their twilight years. This is one scenario of a community.

Along comes someone else and says ‘Hey mate know you have done nothing wrong but you know you are the wrong class for this neighbourhood which is now ready to be taken over other folk who are richer and of a higher class, please pack up and go to the house / flat we have got ready in a ghetto / bantustan whatever elsewhere, sorry you can’t pick a place close to your family / friends they have been delegated a different ghetto / bantustan, tough luck we bow to no other god than the god of gold”.

Not nice, not nice at all. The generations who set up social housing and paid for it would turn in their graves if they saw where morally the people of Britain had moved. Down, down, down. The only measure of quality now seems to be the coin.

Thank you scoosh I think that’s all that needs to be said on the matter, let’s hope CARP win.
