I attended a sales talk and presentation by Urban Splash masquerading as an architectural tour.\u00a0 On the walk that followed I met a fellow blogger, was shown round Park Hill in record time, took a lot of pictures and <a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.org.uk\/?p=4302\">wrote about what I&#8217;d seen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4171.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6915\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Img_4171_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4171_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><a and to see what Urban Splash have been up to in the succeeding months.\u00a0 From outward appearances they have done a lot of work on Phase One, added a stainless steel helical staircase, installed two glazed lifts, hollowed out the four storey cut-out and prepared the commercial and retail space for letting in the lower floors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4175.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6897\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Img_4175_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4175_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4175.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After we&#8217;d left the flat our small group had a coffee in the Hard Hat Caf\u00e9 on Duke Street . . .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_5151_crop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" decided to retain the romantic graffiti scrawled across one of the balconies, as a feature, and indeed this year have installed neon lighting which was switched on on the 50th anniversary of the official opening of Park Hill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4184.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6908\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Img_4184_th\" style=\"text-align: left;\">On the Wednesday night a group of us were having a drink in the Sheffield Tap on the station and I looked up and happened to notice that you can see the neon sign from there, so it&#8217;s clearly visible across the city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-south-yorkshire-14444608\">https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-south-yorkshire-14444608<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b01302s4\">I love you bridge &#8211; Radio 4<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and on the BBC website here -&gt;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b01302s4\">I love you bridge<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As we walked further along past Park Hill and towards the station we came across the new South Street Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4191.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6922\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Img_4191_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4191_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4191.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On the same stretch of land is a city initiative partly funded by Urban Splash as evidenced by the notice below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4192.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6925\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Img_4192_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4192_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4192.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">An amphitheatre has been created on the hillside accompanied by a stairway up to Talbot Street, made partly of steel, naturally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4196.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6929\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Img_4196_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4196_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4196.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In the picture above is visible the lowest block of Park Hill where it meets Talbot Street.\u00a0 Only four storeys at this level they tend to attract older people and families and although the estate is mostly unoccupied at present I was able to confirm that this has been the trend with younger people preferring the high city facing North end and families the South.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4229.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6937\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Img_4229_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4229_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4229.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a left;\">The curve of the amphitheatre isn&#8217;t obvious in the picture above but look below and you can clearly see the edge of it curving away beside the stairs that lead down from Talbot Street to Midland Station.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_4233.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Street it is only a short walk to the Cholera Monument and so being on a city trail as well as an architectural quest we headed off to the park to read about our less fortunate ancestors.<\/p>\n<p Sheffield I had the strange experience of turning a corner by the Alex <del>(now reopened)<\/del>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/alex_flats.jpg\">now student flats<\/a>) and seeing straight through Phase One.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a something that Owen Hatherley had said in <a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.org.uk\/?p=4683\">a talk last year<\/a> at the RFH on Level 5 that Park Hill Phase One was a billboard for the city but the block itself was empty behind the coloured panels, and I think this photo illustrates that very well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a
