Are others too?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>UPDATE: 7\/2\/14\u00a0<\/strong>I heard yesterday that Southwyck House has been refused listing by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.english-heritage.org.uk\/\">EH<\/a> and so we can no doubt look forward to London&#8217;s only barrier block being &#8220;redeveloped&#8221; at some stage for the benefit of an increasingly gentrified Brixton.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">While going to see Peter Barber&#8217;s <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.org.uk\/?p=2481\">Donnybrook <\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">this afternoon (26\/6\/2010) I came across the longest line of single aspect houses I&#8217;ve ever seen, 270m according to Google Earth, and less than 200m from Donnybrook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_0848_full.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2328 aligncenter\" title=\"Img_0848_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_0848_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Taken from the footbridge, click photo for larger image<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It&#8217;s like a smaller version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/newcastlephotos.blogspot.com\/2005\/12\/byker.html\">Byker Wall in Newcastle<\/a>, built to shield the residents from a dual carriageway, the motorway was never built.\u00a0 Not having studied it myself I am informed by a commentator today (3\/10\/2010) that the flats have windows overlooking the road (see Comments below). A quick Google of the road adjacent shows it to be Lefevre Walk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_0849_full.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2326 aligncenter\" title=\"Img_0849_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/img_0849_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The backside, as it were, shielded from the traffic noise but single aspect<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I feel naive and out of touch posting this, they&#8217;ve obviously been there for some years and are presumably all inhabited though I didn&#8217;t stop to check.\u00a0 They are all either W or SW facing as is clear from the Google Earth image below. It is an area I once knew well.\u00a0 Thirty years ago (1978-80) I used to drive the Eastway (Old Ford, East London) on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/byker_ldn.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2332 aligncenter\" title=\"byker_ldn_th\" src=\"https:\/\/singleaspect.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/byker_ldn_th.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"359\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">London&#8217;s Byker Wall from Google Earth &#8211; what to say?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the most difficult housing project to comprehend I&#8217;ve come across since beginning this blog.\u00a0 There they stand, 270m of inhabited single aspect houses with one solitary 1 foot square window each facing the traffic, presumably a toilet window although I honestly don&#8217;t know.
