Bevin Court
August 16th, 2011
As part of a Lubetkin visit to the capital I went to see Bevin Court. It is an unusual and intriguing building tucked away and despite its size surprisingly well hidden.
Originally named Lenin Court and with an eponymous statue outside, it was later renamed owing to the rise of Stalin and the start of the Cold War which made such attributions less favourable. The pedestal on which the statue stood was buried beneath the elegant staircase that forms the focus of the three winged block. The statue is apparently still around and there is talk of reinstalling it in the gardens outside the block, this news comes from a resident with his ear to the ground.
It features in a recent film by Tom Cordell reviewed elsewhere.
