To the best of my knowledge it’s been decanted because Southwark can’t afford the decent homes costs of doing up 144 flats so they’re passing it over to the private sector. Another example of decent homes causing trouble like Norfolk Park and Park Hill in Sheffield.
UPDATE: 28/12/11 I telephoned Southwark council this afternoon and learned that Maydew House is still substantially full, with options for its future being considered but not due to be decided until next Spring when there will be a full cabinet meeting on the subject.
Judging by what happened to Aragon Tower on the Pepys Estate I must admit that I fear gentrification but can only hope that it doesn’t happen. The cost of Decent Homes so often seems to be a trigger to sell to private developers instead and scatter the existing residents to the four winds.

28/05/18 – Front Podium of the building has been taken down.I figure that they would take the back podium down in the future as the construction workers state that they will in order to make another entrance into Southwark Park. They told me that refurbishment will start in September due to confusion on how they will design the building after the Grenfell tragedy.
