Alfa Laval Brentford started on site
September 29th, 2013
Having been alerted to something going on by the increasing number of hits to my blog entry Crap flats and back to backs I’ve just done a quick web search and lo and behold work started on site in March. I’m six months late with the news but I don’t live in London or skim all my entries for updates.
Construction Started on Alfa Laval Site
and
United House awarded a £12.3m contract
have details and if you live in the area and care to send me a photograph or two I will happily publish them.
Just like Ellesmere this rubbish looks likely to be built. Heaven help the residents but then that’s C21st housing if you’re not rich enough to avoid it. I make no apology for denigrating multi-storey back to backs.
It occurs to me that somebody is going to compare these to Cotton Gardens at some stage and say “well you like Cotton Gardens but you don’t like these, what’s the difference?”.
The Cotton Gardens maisonettes have a fire exit door onto an internal corridor which also provides through ventilation owing to a grill in the bottom of the door, something entirely lacking from Alfa Laval. They have one bathroom and are not littered with gratuitous ensuites.
The Alfa Laval “houses” have a downstairs toilet and two bathrooms upstairs, one with shower, one with bath, and both with a toilet. That’s three toilets in one dwelling intended to house at most four people.
While I understand that regulations require a downstairs toilet there is no need for two bathrooms upstairs, it just makes the bedrooms smaller than they need to be.
The “house” has no fire escape from the back of the building. You cannot get out if a fire is burning at the front of the building.
